Our Distance Education Programme recognizes that the faculty-student interaction is an integral part of the process of acquisition of knowledge. Our information and training centres also ascribe to the IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute’s philosophy in imparting comprehensive management education to our student managers.
IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute has developed various teaching methodologies, prominent among those being the Personal Contact Programme.
An extensive Personal Contact Programme (PCP) supports the comprehensive study material for our Distance Education courses. Our student managers can opt for the compact PCP conducted on campus at IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute twice a year in May and November or they can avail of the PCPs organized by our information and training centres on weekends throughout the year. The schedules for the PCPs at IMT, Ghaziabad are intimated to the students in advance to enable them to plan their calendar accordingly. The PCPs provide the forum for interactive education and the students are expected to use the opportunity to clarify and enrich their knowledge base. Attendance in PCPs is compulsory and carries 10% weightage towards End- Term Examination.
Group learning is an effective vehicle preparing prospective managers to be proactive in seeking and acquiring knowledge rather than being limited to lecture sessions. Free exchange of ideas and information among group members through discussions and presentations is a proven methodology for the development of professional and communication skills.
The case method is also used extensively to help develop analytical skills critical to business decision-making. The student managers are exposed to the complexities of the highly competitive professional environment under simulated conditions to help evolve a competent race of new generation managers.
All students are sent a set of text books/study materials as per the course calendar at the beginning of the session.
Practical sessions are held at the information and training centres and at IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute. In these centres, the students have the facility to use the computer and software packages relevant to the syllabus.
Students are expected to do hands-on exercise on computers. During practical sessions, each student would work on his own through the required exercises.
The project work constitutes a major component in most of the professional programmes, except the One Year Diploma Courses. The objective of the project is to help the students develop ability to apply theoretical and practical tools/techniques to solve real life problems related to Industry, Academic Institutions and Research.
Every student is required to submit a project on a subject of his own choice. During the Personal Contact Programme inputs shall be provided for preparation towards project work. Marks will be given on presentation, amount of research and Viva-Voce.
To enable the students to have better services and facilities for Counselling and Personal Contact Programme we have set up information and training centres in various States. These information and training centres perform the following functions:
The admission to various courses of Distance and Open Learning Institute is done at IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute and its information and training centres accros India. The application forms are available with the information and training centres and the completed application forms can be submitted there as well.
The study material / text books are provided by IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute to various information and training centres, which in turn distribute to the concerned student managers. All the login credentials needed are given once the fees is paid.
The Assignments provided by IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute are written by the student managers. After evaluation these are returned back to the student managers much before their End Term Examination.
The most important responsibility of the information and training centres is to organize PCP. The Information and Training Centres invite faculty members who are experts in their own field to conduct classes. Only IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute approved faculty are permitted to conduct PCP’s.The PCP for the final year of the PGDBM programme will be conducted at IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute, Ghaziabad only.
The Institute believes in taking complete care of its students. Information and training centres provide counselling and guidance not only with respect to the different courses offered by them but also provide career guidance and advice.
The Information and training centres conduct examinations under the supervision and direction of IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute. The student managers are allowed to appear for the End Term Examinations (ETE) at their respective centres only.
Information and training centres maintain adequate technical facilities to ensure proper conduct of the programme. Computer lab sessions and exercises are held for the hands on experience on information technology subjects.
Limited library facilities are also available at most of the information and training centres. The students can refer to different specialized text / reference books and journals. Cultivation of reading habit equips the student managers to analyse case studies with clarity of mind, depth and acumen. This enables the students to handle real world situations with a better insight.
